Chapter 50
People are born and move toward death. Three out of ten live long. Three out of ten die young. And three out of ten could have gone on living, but through reckless action they step into the land of death. Why is this so? Because they care for life too richly. By trying too hard to preserve life, they end up harming themselves. I have heard that one who is good at caring for life does not meet rhinos or tigers on the road, and does not get wounded by weapons in battle. For such a person, the rhino has no place to thrust its horn, the tiger has no place to use its claws, and weapons have no place to pierce his body. Why is this so? Because he does not enter the territory of death.
