Push emptiness and stillness to the limit, and hold firmly to quietness. All things flourish and grow together, and from this I watch their cycle of return. Though things are many and varied, each one finally returns to its root. Returning to the root is called stillness. Stillness is called returning to one’s true nature. Returning to one’s true nature is the eternal law. To know this eternal law is called clarity. Not to know it is to act recklessly and bring disaster. To know the eternal law is to embrace all things. To embrace all things is to be impartial. To be impartial is to be whole. To be whole is to be like Heaven. To be like Heaven is to be one with the Tao. To be one with the Tao is to endure, and to the end of your days you will never be in danger.
