Self discipline of the Tao

The world has a source that can be called the mother of all things.  
Once you know the mother, you can know her children.  
Hold to the mother, and to the end of your days you will be safe.

Block the openings of your senses.  
Shut the doors of desire.  
Then you will never wear yourself out.  
Open your senses and chase after outer things, and you will never be free.

To see the small is called clarity.  
To hold to the soft and yielding is called strength.  
Use the outer light, but return to your inner clarity.  
Then you will not bring trouble on yourself.  
This is to carry on the eternal Tao.
