The Endurance of the Tao

To be bold in daring brings death.  
To be bold in not daring brings life.

Of these two kinds of boldness, one brings benefit and the other brings harm.  
What Heaven dislikes—who knows the reason?  
Even the sage finds this hard to explain.

The way of Heaven does not compete, yet it wins skillfully.  
It does not speak, yet it responds skillfully.  
It does not call, yet things come on their own.  
It is calm and unhurried, yet it plans skillfully.

Heaven’s net is vast and wide.  
Its mesh may seem loose, but nothing slips through.
