The spirit of the Tao's contract

When a deep resentment is patched up, some resentment is sure to remain.  
How can repaying resentment with kindness be considered truly good?

So the sage holds the left half of a debt contract, but does not demand payment from others.  
A person of virtue is like one who keeps the contract—easy and forgiving.  
A person without virtue is like a tax collector—harsh and exacting.

The Tao of Heaven has no favorites.  
It always stands with good people.
